This morning we posted up a couple of disruptions to your morning commute as RAF Brize Norton prepared to parade through Torquay Town Centre.

This post just clarifies the sequence in which the roads will be closed and reopened.

Torbay Road Closures

Road closures are in place from 12:30pm and 3:00pm.

Castle Circus in front of the Town Hall will be closed from 12:30pm until 1:45pm.

Further on down at 12:40 Torquay Sea front will also be closed until 2:20pm.

Between 12:35 and 12:50 Lymington Road will be completely closed to allow for the parade to assemble and move safely to the front of the Town Hall.

Avoid this area if possible as traffic is expected to build up.

After 12:50 traffic along Lymington Road and Castle Circus will be diverted up St Marychurch Road.

Drivers are strongly advised to avoid this area as much as possible.

Car Parking Suspsensions

Throughout today, car park suspensions are in effect at the following car parks between 10am and 3pm.

  • Castle Circus
  • Union Street
  • Torbay Road
  • Abbey Sands to Princess Gardens

Ceremonial Service

At 1pm, outside Torquay Town Hall a ceremony will be held, which will give, by tradition, the service personnel from RAF Brize Norton the right and honour to march through the Borough bearing arms.

A parade, led by the band of the RAF Regiment, through Torquay Town Centre to Torquay Sea Front will commence at 1:40pm and will fall-out on the promenade at 2:15pm.

The parade will start at the Town Hall, go down Union Street and Fleet Walk, turning left and will then proceed around the Clocktower and on to the seafront promenade to the right of the Princess Theatre.

An RAF flypast will take place at 1pm.
