Heinz Salad Cream will not be rebranded following backlash

Salad cream lovers around the world are celebrating this week.

Food giant, Heinz, has confirmed that it will not be changing the name of its Heinz Salad Cream.

Back in June Heinz proposed changing the name from Heinz Salad Cream to Heinz Sandwich Cream after 104 years.

However, the name change has been cancelled following a backlash from fans of the complimentary sauce.

Senior brand manager at Heinz, Joel Hughes, said:

“From TV debates to conversations around the dinner table, it seems everyone has a real fondness for not only the iconic, zingy flavour of Heinz Salad Cream, but the name too.

Thousands of you shared your thoughts and suggested new ideas, all of which were considered, but it became clear that the British public wanted to keep Heinz Salad Cream, and any other name just wouldn’t do.

We can’t ignore the will of the people, so Heinz Salad Cream is here to stay.”

The sauce was initially launched onto the high street in 1914.

It was regarded as the UK’s fifth best selling sauce last year, with sales in excess of £28.8 million.

Despite the impressive figures, sales of the sauce have dropped 5.4% since 2016.
